A very common way that roof leaks start is when there is not enough drainage on the roof itself. Some homeowners actually build in too much drainage and this causes the water to pool around the foundation of the house. This means that when the rain pours down, it will pool around the foundation and this can make it very difficult to clean up because the rain and water will be trapped within the roof.

In order to properly perform a roof leak repair, you will need a good pair of waterproofing gloves and an attic ladder. After inspecting all areas of the roof that may cause the water to pool around the house, you will need to take a piece of plywood and cut a hole in it. You will then slide the waterproofing material underneath the hole and secure it to the surface underneath. It will also need to be taped in place. After this is done, you will need to secure a couple more pieces of plywood to the sides of the hole to make it waterproof.

After this is done you will be able to pour water into the hole and try to break up the leak with a hose. If all of the water pools around the house is being pulled away you can now place another layer of waterproofing material and place another tarp over the top of it.
